Reed is the adopted American “nom de plume” of a Chinese Impressionist master who would rather remain an artist then become a personality. As a child growing up, he combined work in the factories, with work with the brush. His drawings were soon praised by local dealers.
Reed’s first exhibition took place in Beijing and received recognition from the judges with an honorable mention. The following year he exhibited again and this time was awarded first prize. His subsequent exhibitions were continually sold out with his paintings being acquired by tourists from all over the world.
His imaging is extraordinary, his brushstrokes lush, his paintings are simply fabulous, specifically the strength of the light which gives life to his compositions. The combination of brush strokes and palette knife application are unique in that while his brush strokes are barely visible, his knife is wildly expressive as if it had a mind of its own. Reed’s canvases are full of joy and graceful spontaneity. His scenes of flowery gardens appear kissed by the eternal sun.
When he is not traveling on learning or photo tours, he lives and paints in his small studio near the Forbidden City. It is a place full of light – and this is softly reflected in his paintings. His intense dedication to his art is visible in each stroke of each of Reed’s magnificent Impressionist creations.
